Senior Paint Chemist

Aervoe Industries, Inc. has a 50-year history as a leading manufacturer of paints, specialty coatings, cleaners, and lubricants for professional industrial use; and an innovative designer and manufacturer of LED traffic control devices used by first responders, contractors, and others.

Job Description

Provides high-level expertise in analyzing, testing, and formulation of new products. Works under the general supervision of the Technical Manager to create and develop innovative paint formulations, optimize existing paint formulations, minimize product cost, improve efficiencies, and integrate new raw material technologies. Responsibilities may include serving as the day-to-day leader for special projects, serving as the primary liaison with internal and external customers on daily technical questions and concerns, and independently commercializing several products.

Job Functions

  • Serve as an expert in analyzing, testing, and developing new or updated formulas that require a comprehensive understanding of chemistry, product lines, and materials; lead project teams, and determine quality standards.
  • Develop and adjust the product formulas, read and interprets patents, and determine how to improve or utilize technology to develop product lines.
  • Solve technical problems and recommend solutions in manufacturing and in the field.
  • Applies comprehensive knowledge of operations and application methods to assist with implementing project objectives, product systems, timelines, and other requirements.
  • Serves as a team member to provide technical assistance to product development quality control, manufacturing processes, technical files, and other operations.
  • Reviews and develops reports and documents detailing project processes, results, and conclusions; leads or performs additional research when required.
  • Interprets procedures and regulatory laws, rules, and regulations; ensures compliance within these areas. Competent in the use of and writing Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Serves as a contact and responds to highly technical and complex questions and concerns from Sales, research professionals, quality control, and customers regarding development, application, quality assurance, and related programs and services.
  • Operates, cleans, and calibrates all forms of equipment requiring professional judgment and background; also utilizes technical or standard equipment during the course of projects.
  • May supervise or serve as a lead to lower-level technicians or support personnel performing research projects.
  • Reduces raw material SKUs where possible through reformulation and optimization.


  • BS in Chemistry or related field; Master preferred
  • Understanding of principles of research and development for coatings and related products
  • 7+ years of R&D, QC, and Process Engineering in paint manufacturing or related field.
  • Strong oral and written English communication (Spanish helpful), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), grasp of algebraic math, logic, and metrics, and problem-solving ability in calm and hectic situations
