Surgery – Surgical Charge Nurse

Carson Valley Medical Center

This is a Contract position in Gardnerville, NV posted August 30, 2020.


The Surgical Charge Nurse is primarily responsible fordirecting and coordinating the patient care activities for the SurgeryDepartment on a daily basis. This includes responding to staff and patient incidents;assessing patient and staff needs; and ensuring appropriate staffing andresource levels. In addition, acts in the place of the Manager of Surgery inhis/her absence, directly reporting to the Director of Nursing during thisabsence.


Minimum Education

Possession of valid license to practice as a RN the State of NV is required, BSN preferred

BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of 3 years of experience in surgical nursing.

Management or supervisory experience highly preferred.

Knowledge of nursing principles and practices; hospital policies, procedures and routines; disease processes and treatment, including psychological, environmental and physical factors that influence a patient’s well-being.

Working knowledge of the laws and regulations governing patient care and medical center operations.

Ability to train and in-service surgical staff members on competency evaluations, educational opportunities and in-services.

Ability to supervise the surgical staff in the provision of patient care; and provide excellent and courteous customer service and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Knowledge of legal restraints on the documentation of patient care activities and applicable filing deadlines and time constraints of the various regulatory agencies; fiscal and budgetary constraints and limitations; and hospital billing processes and procedures.

Ability to establish priorities in solving unusual medical and administrative problems; facilitate communication between staff and administration.
