Electrical Engineer – PCB Design and Assembly

This is a Contract position in Sparks, NV posted September 2, 2022.

The Fabrication Engineering Group provides rapid fabrication, assembly, integration, and test of advanced hardware prototypes for national security applications.

Examples include the precision machining of fiber mounts for airborne high energy laser systems, multi-functional structures using additive processes for ground-based radar systems, custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) for space-borne data processing, and highly integrated mechanical packaging for undersea communication terminals.

Core mechanical competencies span precision fabrication, additive manufacturing, and 5-axis machining.

Core PCB capabilities include design for manufacturability (DFM), automated solder paste dispensers, precise pick-n-place machines, and automated optical inspection systems.

Assembly, integration, and test capabilities include integration spaces, clean rooms, vibration testing, thermal testing, and space simulation chambers.

The Group focuses on quality management, operational proficiency, and technical excellence.

Job Description The Group seeks a talented, creative, and motivated associate staff member to strengthen the Group’s ability to provide rapid and innovative solutions to challenging problems.

The successful candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team consisting of program team members, internal shop operations and other group members to provide guidance and support of printed circuit board (PCB) design, component selection and PCB assembly.

There are also exciting opportunities to contribute to the creation of a state-of-the-art fabrication capability through the implementation of advanced digital processes and the design of a new engineering and prototyping facility.

The ideal candidate will be an extension of the group office who is an embedded program team member that bridges the gap between program needs and fabrication execution for PCB assembly.

This position will allow the individual to gain valuable experience by working directly with more senior component engineers and program team members as he/she learns to design complex PCBs and assess electronic component suitability for spacecraft payloads and other high reliability applications.

Furthermore, the individual will have the opportunity to work directly with an experienced fabrication team while he/she facilitates the successful fabrication of PCB assemblies that are necessary to achieve program objectives.

Specific job functions may include: Assist more experienced engineers with the design of custom PCB assemblies Assess electronic, physical, and environmental suitability of electronic components for specific program requirements and application Research manufacturers’ specifications to determine if parts require special modification, test, or handling for use Develop expertise in more advanced areas to increase overall effectiveness Facilitate the successful fabrication of PCB assemblies Long Description Requirements A Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent technical degree or Bachelor’s degree with 5-years of relevant experience Proven leadership skills and ability to thrive in a team environment Recognized self-motivator that seeks to continuously learn and challenge himself/herself Ability to multi-task and drive issues to closure Excellent written and oral communication skills Preferred Experience (not required) Experience utilizing digital engineering methodologies and data systems Experience with fabrication operations and supply chain management Experience in military/space electronic component standards Experience with PCB design, component engineering and PCB assembly For Benefits Information, click candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.MIT Lincoln Laboratory is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer.
