Job Description:

The Richard Harris Law Firm with 120 team members is seeking an experienced Controller or Director of Finance to plan and direct the accounting operations of the company. As a member of the executive leadership team, you will work alongside other management team members and take ownership of all finance matters including general and trust accounting, account reconciliations and management of P&L s and Balance Sheets.. You should have prior experience working in a similar role using QuickBooks.
You will provide data, advice and strategy to the COO and managing partners in connection with a variety of projects, such as expansion activities, system upgrades, attorney compensation, client team efforts, practice group efforts, and projects designed to position the Firm for financial and operational success. You will be the lead professional within the Firm s Finance Department, providing counsel, leadership, training, support, feedback, and encouragement to department personnel.
Oversee the company's fiscal activity including cash management, client trust account disbursements, budgeting, billing, collections, vendor payments, reconciliations, payroll, internal and external audits, and retirement plan issues.
Optimize the performance of the Accounting Department, ensuring accurate handling of daily transactions while continuing to provide excellent client service.
Build and mentor the Accounting team members through the implementation of systems, processes, internal controls, and policies.
Demonstrate strong financial stewardship. Direct resource allocation, monitor company expenditures and help review and negotiate vendor agreements.
Oversee internal and external Financial Reporting. Work with external CPA firm, financial institutions, and auditors on tax and compliance matters. Set accounting policy.
Implement processes, frameworks and systems that allow us to capture and utilize timely and accurate data across the business to make better decisions.
Provide support on various operational tasks including P&L and financial projections, valuation models and company presentations.
Prepare and distribute timely monthly partnership financial reports, including productivity and financial statements. Evaluate effectiveness of the reporting package and recommends changes as needed.
Experience operating as a Controller or Director of Finance for a mid-sized company.
Strong financial and accounting background, including an understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management, and general finance and budgeting.
Ability to implement business systems and processes to drive improved efficiency and automation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal relationship skills, as well as a desire to collaborate, build rapport, add value, and effective problem-solving.
Proven negotiation skills.
Experience with budget management, and cash flow.
Ability to understand new issues quickly and make wise decisions.
Ability to work under pressure, plan personal workload effectively, and delegate.
Leader that will own the full spectrum of finance and accounting responsibilities.
Strong technical and analytical skills.
Flexible and operationally focused. A capable leader that will be a strong partner to the executive team and an excellent mentor and coach to a growing Accounting and Finance team.
5+ years of accounting or finance experience in a leadership position.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
Advanced degree or CPA preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience in the legal field a plus.
